Baseball
One of my big hobbies is baseball. I've played every summer since I was in Kindergarten. I started
playing YMCA t-ball, then upgraded to YMCA baseball, all the while being number 15 most of the time.
In 2000, I pitched for the first time (with Ryne Edwards behind the plate, of course). I was
pretty good; probably the co-ace pitcher with Kyle. We have to remember this was a YMCA team, but I
did have several 123 innings, including closing our last game. Well, now I play for Washington, my
school, and mainly play middle infield, preferably short stop.
I enjoy going up to Arthur with my dad and taking BP and fielding practice. I also play a lot with
Nick and Kyle. However, my love for baseball goes beyond playing. I'm a huge Twins fan. Every
day they have a game, I intently watch ESPN's bottomline waiting for a score update. My favorite
player is Twins SS Cristian Guzman, 15.
Computers
I love using computers, namely programming them. This probably wore off on me from Michael, but for
years now, I've enjoyed working on computers. I started out using different forms of BASIC. This was
fun then, I once made a Tic Tac Toe program, but there wasn't really much you could do with it. A couple
of years ago, I bought a book on HTML and taught myself. I am now a fluent web-programmer. I've made
several webpages for myself (i.e. this one), instituted and formerly co-maintained Franklin Middle School's
website, and redesigned and currently maintain the website for KCCK-FM 88.3. I really enjoy making webpages,
but there's only so much to make a webpage about, so I've attempted to learn other programming languages
to satisfy my urge to do something else. I briefly tried to learn PHP, which failed right away. Later
I tried to teach myself PASCAL from an internet tutorial. I actual became novicely skilled with Pascal,
but it was all just text-based, so most of it I could much more easily do it with BASIC. I also once
was reading up on JavaScript, but none of my programs worked. I'm pretty sure it's because of the old
computer I was using, but that attempt ended as well. Well, now I'm seriously learning a real
programming language. At school, I'm taking a class, Computational Science, in which I'm learning C++.
It's a really fun class for people who like programming. Also, Mr. Strong,
the teacher is cool. In addition to learning programming, you learn about the history of computers and how
they work. I enjoyed learning about hexidecimal code and bianary code. I now know how to convert decimal
16, to bianary 00001000, to hex F1.
Corn Growing
Every summer since around 1993, I've planted and grown corn in my backyard. One day, when I was
walking home from school, I found a cob of corn, probably put out for squirrels, and took it home.
I put the kernels in a jar of water and sprouts began to grow. I planted them in the back yard and
it grew into sorgum. Now, I just grow corn for the squirrels and save one ear for some seeds to plant
the next year.
Games
I enjoy playing computer games over the internet with my friends. At least several times a week, a lot
of us get together in a giant X-way phone conversation to start a game. The games we most comonly
play are StarCraft, Quake, and occasionally Unreal Tournament.
Other Stuff
I'm sure I have more hobbies than the ones listed above, but I can't think of any right now. I enjoy
doing stuff with my friends, playing video games, and enjoy doing stuff outside (when it's warm).
