This is a page where I (Andy) tell what I liked and disliked about
the last episode of Red Dwarf. You can email
me and discuss the show. I will try to update this page as soon as
I can after I view the episode. NOTE: You won't understand my remarks
if you haven't viewed the episode.
Episode Summary: Red Dwarf breaks the
speed of light. The crew begins to see future echoes, which lets
them see things that will happen in the future. The faster the ship
goes, the more in the future are the future echoes.
My Thoughts on this episode...
This is a SOS distress call from the mining ship Red Dwarf.
The crew are dead, killed by a radiation leak, the only survivors were
Dave Lister who was in suspended animation during the disaster and his
pregnant cat who was safely sealed in the hold. Revived 3 million years
later, Lister's only companions are a life form who evolved from his cat
and Arnold Rimmer a hologram simulation of one of the dead crew.
I think that 'Future Echoes' was one of the most interesting episodes of
all. It had drama concerning Rimmer staying behind while the others
go in to stasis, and Lister thinking he will die and seeing himself.
I found it quite humorus that the dispencing machine didn't work and all
the problems have been reported to the skutters yet, they weren't fixed.
Also, the picture of Lister's grandma was amusing. Especially when
Cat asked, "Who's that guy?!" Another thing I liked was with the
future echoes when Lister said, "It would have happend happend, but it
hasn't actually happened happend." Then Rimmer gives his 'happened'
theory. When they saw Lister at age 171 that was interesting.
Then when Lister saw his two sons and takes a picture, the picture develops
when the credits are rolling. Well, here are some of the funny things

Funny Things

Rimmer
When taking his morning jog, Rimmer passes Lister.
He asks him about his day plans. Then Arnold tells what he thinks
Lister will do today. His answer is basically just slobbering all
day.

After Rimmer gets back from his run, his stops his watch.
It is about 6 1/2 minutes. He figures that he talked with Lister
for about 4 minutes (when really it was 1 minute max) and about a minute
resting so he didn't seem worn out in front of Lister. After subtracting
that, he realizes, he's beaten the World's record!
.
He doesn't know aobut his haircut and says thing like
Holly did it because I ordered him to and, I like it like this! Then
when asked if he's actually seen it he looks in the mirror and says, "I
look like a compleat and total git!"
.
When Lister tries to comfort Rimmer about beign dead,
Rimmer says things like, "If you were unning a buisness, who would you
hire, the dead person or the living person?" Then proclaims, "You
livies hate us deadies!"
.
When Lister explains why he's going in to stasis, Rimmer
says, "You think I don't know that? I have taken the Astro Navigation
Exam 9 times...10 if you count the time I had my spasm."

Rimmer says that when they reach Earth he will not be
turned back on and says sarcastically, "I bet they have a cure for death
now." He gives an example, "Okay Mr. Johnson. Take one of these
pills each day and you'll soon be living again! Carol, would you
bring in the next corps."

After seeing a future echo in the mirror Lister calls
Rimmer and asks, "Do you see anything weird in that mirror? Rimmer
replys, "I see you, you git!"

When aske by Holly hoe simple should he explain future
echoes, Rimmer replys, "So Lister can understand it."
.
Rimmer informs that he jsut saw him die very painfully.
Lister then asks how old did he look. Rimmer asks, "How old are you
now?" "25" "Mmm...mid 20's."
.
When Lister thinks of ways to prevent his death, Rimmer
explains, "It can't be done." Lister asks, "Who says?" "Me
and Albert Einstein. It's called the theory of relativity.
Yes, Albo and I agree on this one."

Rimmer pretends to carry Dave's cascet.
.
He keeps on explaining how Lister dies.
.
Lister walks to the control room were he suposedly dies.
He grabs and stick. Rimmer asks, "What are you gonna do with that?
You can't whack death on the head!"
.
Rimmer prepares to watch Lister die.
Lister
When Lister's pet goldfish dies, he opens it up and turns
a screw a bit. Then the fish is alive again!
.
When Lister is 'freshining up' he puts on spay-on-callonge
and shaves. He puts the collonge on first. When he puts the
shaving cream on, a misty spray comes out. HE looks under his shirt
and there's chaving cream. He whipes some off and puts it on his
face!
.
When Talkie Toaster is singing, Lister goes and smakcs
him.
.
Being sad about his death he starts listing things he's
never done like, "I've never read (he thinks) a book."
.
He names both of his sons after London Jet's football
player, Jim Bexley. His first son's name is JIm, and his second son's
name is Bexley.
.
When Holly explains very simpley what is happening he
asks Lister, "Clear?" Lister says, "No."
Cat
When looking at Lister's photo album, there is a picture
of Dave's dad and his dog. Imeadiotly Cat outbursts, "WHO IS THAT?!"
Lister responds, "It's my dad. That's the only picture I have of
him." "That's your dad?! No wonder you're so ugly!" Lister
explains, "No. That's his dog." Cat asks, "What's a dog?"
"It's a pet" "Well if there are any around here, I might have to
chase him."
.
Lister asks Cat if he knows how big a dog is and informs
him that they are about 18 feet long with teeth the size of his leg.
Cat responds, "Well, then maybe I'll still have to chase him!" Walking
slightly backwards, he bumps into the door and then looks around to see
if the coast is clear, now being afraid of the dog species.
.
Cat stares and ponders at Rimmer's new haircut.
.
After packing for Stasis, Cat has over ten racks of suites.
.
When Cat is caught scooping out Lister's fish, he pleads,
"I wasn't gonna eat it!"
.
Cat asks him his occasionally question, "How am I lookin'?"
And the enevitable answer is, "I'm looking good!"
.
He 'investigates' Lister fish and starts singing, "I'm
gonna eat you little fishey!"
.
Cat has a 'dog attack' against Lister right when Lister
thinks he is going to die.
Holly
When Rimmer asks for a very short haircut, Holly, being
a bit pissed of at Rimmer, gives him a large head of hair wiht a women's
haircut.
.
When Rimmer contacts Holly to switch his hair back, an
answering machine plays.
.
When Rimmer asks, "What's going on?" Holly states,
"I'm not your mum!"
.
There is an emergency so Holly alerts, "Emergency, Emergency,
there is an Emergency going on!"
Talkie Toaster
When Rimmer says, "I'm toast!" Talkie Toaster asks,
"Did somebody say toast?"
.
When Lister is singing, Talkie Toaster starts singing.
.
Through the whole episdoe, Talkie Toaster is being a
smart ass.
Skutters
They give Lister a note, "Please don't leave us here
with Rimmer!" Lister explains, "I gotta go." Hearing this the
skutter's start to bang their head against the wall.
Best Role
This weeks best role goes to...Holly! Ypu have
to give him some credit. So what that he has an IQ of 6,000.

I give 'Future Echoes'4 out of 5. Great episode
with good comedy and drama.
